Excerpts from the book `Don`t be Sad` by `Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni
`O Allah` Add 385 days ago
In the Student Union Center at the University of Miami, Abdullah Hakim Quick delivers another enlightening and unforgettable talk about the true origins of the major holidays celebrated in the West. With many non-Muslim students in attendance, Sheihk Quick explains that throughout time there has been a constant struggle between those who believe in one God and those who believe in many gods. And these struggles resulted in many compromises on the part of those who would ultimately influence and shape many modern day religious ceremonies and celebrations. And what comes to us today are rituals not condoned by the prophets and messengers of God, but rather mixed-up beliefs and practices that can be attributed to ancient pagan culture. The major celebrations analyzed in this talk are: Christmas, New Year`s, Valentine`s Day, Easter, and Halloween.

Question and Answer session of the lecture. Contrary to what the title suggests, this lecture is not a discussion about the onslaught of the western ideologies against the position of the Muslim woman. In actuality, this presentation is about the internal war. This lecture is about the war zone that is alive behind the closed doors of the Muslim homes. Is their a problem with our home relationships? Is their a problem in our marriages? Is their a problem with how our educational institutions are structured today? War Against Muslim Women... Add 161 days ago
The month of Ramadan is confirmed by the sighting of the new moon, or by the completion of thirty days of Sha’baan.

The Prophet (sa) said: `We are an unlettered nation; we neither write nor calculate. The month is so-much and so-much (i.e. sometimes 29 days, sometimes 30)` [Hadith Bukhari]

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (sa) instructed: `Fast after you have seen it [the new crescent] and end the fast [at the end of the month] when you see it. If it is hidden from you, then wait until the thirty days of Sha`ban have passed.` [Hadith Bukhari and Muslim.]

^ This Hadith is a general address directed to the whole Muslim world.

The testimony of sighting the Hilal (crescent of the new moon) can be achieved by:

(a) Direct sighting, where you see it yourself, or
(b) Indirect sighting, where someone sees it, and you rely on his sighting.

Ibn `Umar said: `The people were looking for the new moon and when I reported to the Messenger of Allah that I had seen it, he fasted and ordered the people to fast.` [Hadith Abu Dawud, al-Hakim, Ibn Hibban, who declared it sahih]

Allah says in the interpretation of the meaning: “We hear and we Obey” [Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:285]
Whoever sees the Hilal or hears about it from a trustworthy source (by one adult, sane, trustworthy, reliable Muslim who has good eyesight) is obliged to fast.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (sa) and said: I have sighted the moon. Al-Hasan added in his version: that is, of Ramadan. He asked: Do you testify that there is no god but Allah? He replied: Yes. He again asked: Do you testify that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah? He replied: Yes, and he testified that he had sighted the moon. He said: Bilal, announce to the people that they must fast tomorrow. [Hadith Sunan Abu-Dawud]

Using calculations to determine the moon is a Bid’a (innovation)

Definition of Bid’a: To introduce something new or take something out (beliefs / actions) from the religion of Islaam, that neither Allah nor His Messenger (sa) legislated i.e. with no authentic proof by the Qur’aan or Authentic Sunnah.

Allah says in the interpretation of the meaning: `This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion` (5:4)

Allahs Messenger (sa) said: `There is nothing that Allaah ordered you with except that I have ordered you with it, and there is nothing that Allaah forbade you from except that I have forbidden you from it` [al-Bayhaqee and others].

^ Allah has perfected our Deen for us and sent us our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (sa) with a message for the whole of mankind … Are we claiming Allah is a liar that he missed some things out or the Prophet (sa) did not do his job sufficiently? We need to fear Allah, and realise have no right to innovate!

The Prophet Muhammad (sa) said: `I warn you of the newly invented matters (in the religion), and every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire` [An-Nasa`ee]

He (sa) used to declare at the beginning of his lectures: `….and the best speech is the Speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (sa), and the worst of all affairs are the newly invented matters (in the religion)` [Saheeh Muslim]

So the issue of Innovation is not to be taken lightly. It does not matter how good a thing may seem appear to be, or sound – if Allah or His Prophet (sa) did not authorise it, stay well away or we will pay the consequences in this life and the next.

The Translation of this clip:

The like as Christian educated Dr. Luhr went over before approximately two years to the Islam..

Five times on day prays Dr. Luhr direction Mekka . The Islamic prayer rite is firmly into its routine of the day integrated. But that was not always like that. The 46 year old physician was educated like as Christian, could however never understand itself God as three-agreement, consisting of father, son and holy spirit. In discussions with Muslims it approached the Islam and is converted before approximately two and a half years together with his wife. Some beginning problems had Christian acquaintance to accept his crossing. But in the meantime he has both: Christian like Muslim friends.

`The Islam was the first religion, which has for me a clear logical explanation of God`, says dr. Luhr. `Islam is called devotion under the one God. And Muslim is called to serve this God.` Dr. Luhr is not alone. Islam archives found out that in the past year about 4000 people in Germany went over to the Islam.

Number of the converts increases:

`The motivation to the crossing is evenly nevertheless that this gave God clear instructions for the life`, white Salim Abdullah, Leader of Islam archives. `In this time, where everything goes cross wise in disorder, nevertheless for many people is a good perspective .`

With many non-Muslims in attendance at the University of Miami Student Union Center, Abdullah Hakim Quick delivers an enlightening and engaging talk about the origins of the major holidays celebrated in the West. An intellectual analysis of this controversial subject by a well-known American historian. Imam Quick explains that throughout time there has been a constant struggle between those who believe in Audienceone God and those who believe in many gods. And through these struggles, many compromises were made on the part of those who would ultimately influence and shape the major modern day holidays and celebrations in the West. The result today are rituals not sanctioned by the prophets or scriptures of God, but rather mixed-up beliefs and practices that, essentially, can be attributed to ancient pagan culture. The major celebrations analyzed in this talk are: Christmas, New Year`s, Valentine`s Day, Easter and Halloween. Other topics discussed: Audience Muslim holidays, Thanksgiving, Kwanza, the Sabbath, celebrating birthdays, the origins of the Hajj, having non-Muslims as friends, dealing with holidays in the school curriculum, and pork being served at the school cafeteria.

Abdullah Hakim Quick was born in the U.S. and accepted Islam in 1970. He received an ijaza from the College of Da`wah and Islamic Sciences in 1979.

`If you look at present-day Christianity, most of the concepts of the trinity, of the blood sacrifice, the original sin, and most of the concepts which relate to more than one God are coming through Paul.`
