The Quran
Surah # 81 - Al-Takweer
Recited by Muhammad Siddeeq Al-Minshaawee

In the Name of Allah, The Entirely merciful, the Especially merciful

1. When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
2. And when the stars fall, dispersing,
3. And when the mountains are removed
4. And when full-term she-camels are neglected
5. And when the wild beasts are gathered
6. And when the seas are filled with flame
7. And when the souls are paired
8. And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
9. For what sin she was killed
10. And when the pages are made public
11. And when the sky is stripped away
12. And when Hellfire is set ablaze
13. And when Paradise is brought near,
14. A soul will [then] know what [deeds] it has brought [with it].
15. So I swear by the retreating stars
16. Those that run [their courses] and disappear --
17. And by the night as it closes in
18. And by the dawn when it breathes
19. [That] indeed, the Quran is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
20.[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],
21. Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.
22. And your companion is not [at all] mad.
23. And he [Muhammad] has already seen him [Gabriel] in the clear horizon.
24. And he [Muhammad] is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.
25. And the Quran is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].
26. So where are you going?
27. It is not except a reminder to the worlds
28. For whoever wills among you to take a right course.
29. And you do not will except that Allah wills -- Lord of the worlds.

The major sins are those acts which have been forbidden by Allah in the Quran and by His Messenger (PBUH) in the Sunnah and which The major sins are those acts which have been forbidden by Allah in the Quran and by His Messenger (PBUH) in the Sunnah and which have been made clear by the actions of the first righteous generation of Muslims, the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w.s).
Allah (s.w.t) says concerning them in the Glorious Quran:
If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall expiate from you your (small) sins, and admit you to a Noble Entrance (i.e. Paradise) [Quran 4:31]

Although the major sins are many, close to seventy according to Ibn `Abbas (RA), the following hadeeth highlights the seriousness of such sins:

The Prophet (PBUH) said: `Avoid the seven things that doom a person to Hell.` They said, `O Messenger of Allah, what are they?` He said, `Associating others with Allah (shirk); witchcraft (sihr); killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden to kill, except for a lawful reason; consuming riba; consuming the property of orphans; fleeing from the battlefield; and slandering chaste and innocent believing women.` [Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2615; Muslim, 89]

It is therefore of paramount importance that Muslims gains knowledge about these major sins and do their utmost to avoid them. In this major sins series, Imaam Abu Usamah goes through the book `Kitaab ul-Kabair` (Book of major sins) written by the great scholar of Islam, Imaam Adh-Dhahabi (rahimahullah) (d. 748 AH). Abu Usamah uses his dynamic and captivating style to expound upon each chapter of the book correcting any weak hadeeth that may be present.

It is confirmed from the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) that he used to give his Companions the good news of the coming of the month of Ramadhan. He (peace be upon him) informed them that it is a month in which the Gates of Mercy and the Gates of Paradise are opened and the Gates of Hell are closed. During it the devils are chained. He (peace be upon him) said: `When it is the first night of Ramadhan the Gates of Paradise are opened and not a single one of them is closed, and the Gates of Hell are closed and not a single one of them is opened. The devils are fettered and a caller calls out saying, `O seeker of good, come forth (with your good), and O seeker of evil, restrain yourself.` Allah has people that He frees from the Fire and that is every night (of Ramadhan).` [Al-Tirmithi no.682 and Ibn Majah no. 1642]
`Whoever fasts Ramadhan with faith and hoping for reward, he will be forgiven for all of his previous sins. Whoever stands (for prayer at night) during Ramadhan with faith and hoping for reward, he will be forgiven for all of his previous sins. Whoever stands (for prayer at night) during Laylatul-Qadr (the Night of Decree) with faith and hoping for reward, he will be forgiven for all of his previous sins.` [Al-Bukhari no.2014 and Muslim no. 759-760]

Oh My beloved brothers and Sisters We should take advantage of this opportunity, which is Allah`s blessing upon us by allowing us to catch the month of Ramadhan. Thus we should make haste in performing acts of obedience (to Allah) and we should avoid the evil deeds. We should strive hard to perform all that Allah made obligatory upon us, especially the Five prayers, for they are the pillars of Islam. The prayer is the greatest of the obligations after the two Testimonies of Faith. So brothers and Sisters Let us make this Ramadhan (by the Will of Allah) the best of the months and days of our life and insha Allah try to reform ourselves. May Allah Grant us the Ability to correct ourselves and to reform ourselves. Ameen

This profound presentation discusses Evil in our world from its origin, how it affects us at the present, and what could result from it in the future. People who believe in God turn away from that belief. How? When personal tragedy strikes, people try to find reason and rhymes to their tragedy, and often times end up rejecting God. Do you know someone who has made this mistake?

It is commonly misunderstood that Satan became a disbeliever because of his disobedience of Allah. If so, does any type of disobedience make you a disbeliever? Then what of Adam, who also disobeyed God? Is he a disbeliever? What exactly brings one to disbelief?

If God is so powerful, why does evil exist? Why is there so much emphasis on Evil rather than Good? Does pleasure in this life necessarily coincide with punishment in the next? Why are some prone to suffering while others are untouched?
This discussion presents the concept of Evil and how one can deal with it realistically.
