Masha-Allah, Al-Jannah is so much more than what we can ever even begin to comprehend in this world. Insha-Allah, see what one of the greatest scholars of Islam had to say about it in his book, `Haadi al-Arwaah ilaa Bilaad il-Afraah.`
Ameeeeeen. May Allah enter us into Jannatul Firdaws Al-A`laa!

BTW, the background picture is the Nile, Egypt. The reason I chose it was because Allah`s messenger (s) in numerous ahadith told us that the Nile is of the rivers of Paradise. So, the background is actually relevant.

O ye who believe! Let not your wealth nor your children distract you from remembrance of Allah. Those who do so, they are the losers.
Shaytaan (Satan) has overpowered them. So he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Shaytaan (Satan). Verily, it is the party of Shaytaan (Satan) that will be the losers!
Islam calls us to seek knowledge. The Prophet (PBUH) made seeking knowledge an
obligation upon every Muslim, and he explained that the superiority of the one who
has knowledge over the one who merely worships is like the superiority of the moon
over every other heavenly body. He said that the scholars are the heirs of the Prophets
and that the Prophets did not leave behind dinars and dirhams (i.e., money), rather
their inheritance was knowledge, so whoever acquires it has gained a great share.
Sometimes we complain about our times, that we are living in the worst times -- the Ummah is weak, the Ummah is defeated and disunited, we wish we were living in the time of the Sahabah (radiyallahu `anhum) or times of the heroic Islamic eras.

Second Reason: We shouldn`t complain about our time; instead we should be grateful to Allah `Azza wa Jall that we are living in these days. Why? If you look at the status of the Sahabah, it is the highest status among the Muslim Ummah; they are the highest, the best and the greatest. And then the Tabi`een and then those who came after them11. How come the Sahabah were the best?

Some of the reasons include that the Sahaba built Islam from scratch; the Sahabah came and there was nothing so they established the foundation of the Deen whereas anyone else who came after them, the building was already there and they came and added pieces to that foundation here and there; and if there were any broken pieces, like bid`ah12, they would fix it. But the foundation was already laid down by the Sahaba. And this is what made them the best generation because their job was the most difficult job. It is important for us to realise what is the demand of our times so that we fulfil it because the things that at-Tabi`een emphasized on for example may be different from the things that the Taba Tabi`een emphasized on.

To make this point clear: if Al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) came one hundred years later and did the same thing, he would not have the same status that he has among us now. If Imam ash-Shafi`i (rahimahullah) came one hundred years later and did the same thing, he would not have the same status that he has among us now. Why? Because the needs were different from time-to-time.

You will notice that the four Imam`s of Fiqh lived in same Century, and the six Imam`s of hadith also lived within that same Century. This tells you that the need at one time was Fiqh and the need in another time was hadith. I am saying this because if we want to serve Islam the best now, we need to understand what is needed now.

We find that some brothers would go and emphasize on Da`wah while some brothers will go and emphasise on `Ilm. We do need to emphasise on these areas and every area, but if we were to ask ourselves the question of what is needed the most in our time today, we would find that it is quite similar to the time of the Sahabah because now we have reached to the lowest level that we have reached in Fourteen Centuries.

So our time that we are complaining about, among all the other generations after the Sahaba, although our time is not exactly the same it is the most similar to the time of the Sahaba. Why? Because when the Sahabah came there was no Islamic authority and there is no Islamic authority today and this was not the case for fourteen hundred years. When the Sahabah came, they fought entire surroundings including the two super powers -- the Persian Empire and the Roman Empire -- and all the `Arabs around them that were against them.

And this is similar to our situation today and this wasn`t the case in our history before. In our history before you would find Islamic authority, you would find people to assist you in Al-Haqq, and there was a place to make Hijrah to. Now we find that the whole world is waging a war against us and this is similar to time of the Sahabah
What is Islam Add 105 days ago
The Prayer was the only order that was commanded by Allaah directly to His Messenger may Allaah exalt his mention during his night journey. Allaah Says (what means): 'Exalted is He who took His slave [i.e. Prophet Muhammad] by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haraam to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.' [Quran 17: 1] Prayer was also obligatory upon all the prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention, and their nations.

In the Quran, Allaah ordains us hundreds of times to establish the Prayer. Allaah Says (what means): '...Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times...' [Quran 4: 103] And (what means): 'Establish the Prayer, and give Zakaat (poor-due) and bow with those who bow (in worship and obedience).' [Quran 2: 43]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam said: 'Islam is built upon five pillars: Bearing witness that none is worthy of worship but Allaah and that Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam is His Messenger, establishing the Prayer, paying Zakaah, observing Fast in Ramadhaan and performing Hajj.' [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

The significance of Prayer is so great that one is ordered to observe it whether traveling or not, in safety or in fear. Allaah Says (what means): 'Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allaah. And if you go in fear, then (pray) standing or on horseback. And when you are again in safety, remember Allaah, as He has taught you that which (heretofore) you knew not.' [Quran 2: 238-239]

Moreover, it is the first act that the person will be held accountable for on the Day of Recompense. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: 'The first act that the slave will be held accountable for on the Day of Judgment will be the Prayer. If it is good, then the rest of his deeds will be good. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad.' [At-Tabaraani]
The month of Ramadan is confirmed by the sighting of the new moon, or by the completion of thirty days of Sha’baan.

The Prophet (sa) said: `We are an unlettered nation; we neither write nor calculate. The month is so-much and so-much (i.e. sometimes 29 days, sometimes 30)` [Hadith Bukhari]

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (sa) instructed: `Fast after you have seen it [the new crescent] and end the fast [at the end of the month] when you see it. If it is hidden from you, then wait until the thirty days of Sha`ban have passed.` [Hadith Bukhari and Muslim.]

^ This Hadith is a general address directed to the whole Muslim world.

The testimony of sighting the Hilal (crescent of the new moon) can be achieved by:

(a) Direct sighting, where you see it yourself, or
(b) Indirect sighting, where someone sees it, and you rely on his sighting.

Ibn `Umar said: `The people were looking for the new moon and when I reported to the Messenger of Allah that I had seen it, he fasted and ordered the people to fast.` [Hadith Abu Dawud, al-Hakim, Ibn Hibban, who declared it sahih]

Allah says in the interpretation of the meaning: “We hear and we Obey” [Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:285]
Whoever sees the Hilal or hears about it from a trustworthy source (by one adult, sane, trustworthy, reliable Muslim who has good eyesight) is obliged to fast.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (sa) and said: I have sighted the moon. Al-Hasan added in his version: that is, of Ramadan. He asked: Do you testify that there is no god but Allah? He replied: Yes. He again asked: Do you testify that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah? He replied: Yes, and he testified that he had sighted the moon. He said: Bilal, announce to the people that they must fast tomorrow. [Hadith Sunan Abu-Dawud]

Using calculations to determine the moon is a Bid’a (innovation)

Definition of Bid’a: To introduce something new or take something out (beliefs / actions) from the religion of Islaam, that neither Allah nor His Messenger (sa) legislated i.e. with no authentic proof by the Qur’aan or Authentic Sunnah.

Allah says in the interpretation of the meaning: `This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion` (5:4)

Allahs Messenger (sa) said: `There is nothing that Allaah ordered you with except that I have ordered you with it, and there is nothing that Allaah forbade you from except that I have forbidden you from it` [al-Bayhaqee and others].

^ Allah has perfected our Deen for us and sent us our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (sa) with a message for the whole of mankind … Are we claiming Allah is a liar that he missed some things out or the Prophet (sa) did not do his job sufficiently? We need to fear Allah, and realise have no right to innovate!

The Prophet Muhammad (sa) said: `I warn you of the newly invented matters (in the religion), and every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire` [An-Nasa`ee]

He (sa) used to declare at the beginning of his lectures: `….and the best speech is the Speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (sa), and the worst of all affairs are the newly invented matters (in the religion)` [Saheeh Muslim]

So the issue of Innovation is not to be taken lightly. It does not matter how good a thing may seem appear to be, or sound – if Allah or His Prophet (sa) did not authorise it, stay well away or we will pay the consequences in this life and the next.
